This will involve them walking pretty much non-stop for 24 hours around a course in Taupo. It happens at the end of March 2012.

Now it’s all in a good cause, see http://www.oxfam.org.nz/oxfam_trailwalker/.

What they need is …your money! If you would like to sponsor the “Sad Bastards”, please head over to their team page and pledge some dosh. They need to get donations of at least $2000, so please give what you can of you feel so inclined.

Thank you, and spread the word!

Eyede is pleased to announce the re-launch of the Fish & Game online licencing web application. Recently Eyede provided Fish & Game Retailer Stores with the ability to purchase Fish and Game licences online on behalf of their customers. This has proved extremely popular, in part due to the user friendly interface and the streamlined licencing process.

We have taken this same process and made it available to the public via the Fish & Game New Zealand website, or the shortcut below. Now it is even easier for Fishermen and Game Hunters to purchase licences anytime from the comfort of their own homes. 2011-2012 full season fishing licences go on sale today.

Three Eyede software developers attended the first Web Developers Conference WDCNZ held in Wellington last Thursday (14th July) at the Mac’s Brewhouse function rooms.

Photo by WE DO Photography and Design wedo.net.nz

Web geeks turned out in numbers and got their early caffeine kick from a much appreciated on site barista. The event started at 9am with a quick introduction from the organisers followed by the “Developer Experience” YMCA dance demonstrated by the opening speaker Pamela Fox.

Some great sessions followed on HTML5, CCS3, Security, Web performance, Mobile development and different web frameworks. A panel discussion on web vs. native for mobile saw the speakers battling with each other. The panel consisted of representatives from iOS, Android and Microsoft, so there was something useful from everyone’s perspective including the obligatory good natured humour at the expense of Microsoft representative.

The expert speakers conveyed their knowledge and experiences well, with an infectious passion for their subjects, liberally mixed with dose of good natured profanity.

The day’s speakers included Google engineer talking about html5, a Mozilla engineer from Firefox video and audio team, the founder of the first iPhone native app company and a core ruby on rails developer.

Some excellent insights into where the web technology is headed in the near future produced some very thought provoking sessions and served well to kick us into overdrive discussing the possibilities for using these ideas in our respective Eyede projects.

The Session finished on time at 5.45pm, with no delay in the collective geeks reaching out for their favourite beverage. As with most successful events of this nature, the day’s speakers acted as a catalyst for new, exciting ideas topped off with a chance to network with other developers.

In 2011, Eyede and Snapper will be entering their third year of providing Wellington schools with the ability to combine their student identification card with a Snapper card. This has proven to be very successful within the Wellington Schools to whom Eyede supply cards, with over 60% of students opting to combine their cards.

Students now have the ability to use the cards for public transport, for the purchase of goods at over 100 retailers, and even at their school tuck-shop. It has made things so much easier; students have the ability to use the card for retail purchases, library activities and photocopying within the school, without the need to carry multiple cards or cash.

If your school is interested in combining your student identification cards with Snapper just send an email to our schools account manager: Kelly O’Keeffe.
