Wellesley Boutique Hotel

Wellesley Boutique Hotel (WBH) is located in central Wellington City. The hotel caters to travellers, Wellesley Club members, the local Freemasons, and is also open to the public.

WBH wanted to offer these guests and members extra benefits of "belonging" through use of an integrated database and card system, with the card acting as physical ID, the mechanism for achieving the benefit, and allowing after hours secure access to the Hotel facilities.

 

Aims and Objectives

Develop an integrated card system that will:

  • Capture details of Hotel guests, Wellesley Club Members, Freemasons and selected members of the public ("Magginity's" members) in an online smart card application. Produce cards that act as physical ID for all users as well as the trigger for bonuses at POS, and for after hours security access to the Hotel; and within the Hotel - access to specific rooms, to specific cardholders at specific times.
  • Cards to hold an "electronic purse" allowing cardholders to carry cash balances accessed via the card at POS within WBH.
  • Allow WBH to automatically apply bonus funds at time of card top-up, with bonus amount being configurable for different card user types.
  • Provide management and reporting capabilities providing WBH with real-time data on bonus funds, fund usage, and cardholder details.

Our Solution

Eyede created an in-house application that integrated a membership database, electronic purse, bonus funds management, and door security. In order to do this, the application interfaces with the WBH EFTPOS solution and with the standard Cardax card access system.

Some of the features of the solution are:

  • Full-featured membership database.
  • Global card purse with funds held centrally, allowing the funds to be used at any WBH POS device and allowing access to the funds from multiple cards.
  • Full background integration with POS terminals with the application running as a background service and intercepting EFTPOS calls providing seamless functionality to staff.
  • Full integration with the Cardax API set allowing the application to control card access via the application interface whilst using industry standard MiFare card technology.
  • Ability to track and report membership funds usage and bonus fund transactions.
  • Configurable to allow WBH to determine and control bonus fund amount and default security access sets by cardholder type.
  • Developed to international .Net standards allowing the application to be installed on existing Windows implementations.
